ZIP code 57534 covers the rural Hayes area in central South Dakota’s Stanley County, west of Fort Pierre. Its landscape is chiefly open prairie and working ranchland. The most notable natural landmark is the Fort Pierre National Grassland, a large public prairie managed by the U.S. Forest Service; the Bad River drainage is another defining local feature. Hayes itself is a small, unincorporated community.
